Eagle Bancorp, Inc. was incorporated under the general corporation laws of the State of Maryland on October 28, 1997, and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. The company was formed as a bank holding company as defined by the Federal Reserve System. On June 9, 1998, Eagle Bancorp, Inc. closed its initial offering for shares of company stock with an over subscription amounting to $16.5 million.
On July 20, 1998, approvals were received from the State of Maryland and the Federal Reserve System, and acceptance for deposit insurance was received by the FDIC. EagleBank then opened its first office in Rockville, Maryland. On that same date, Eagle Bancorp, Inc. became a bank holding company by capitalizing EagleBank with $7.75 million. Two additional branch offices, Silver Spring and Bethesda, opened soon thereafter. The strong capitalization of the Bank enabled it to open three offices before the end of its first year in business.
EagleBank’s fourth office, located on Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring (today, located at 8665-B Georgia Avenue), opened in 1999, followed by the Bank’s first Washington, D.C. location at 2001 K Street which opened in May 2000. The franchise expanded in Montgomery County in March 2002 with the opening of the Shady Grove Office. Located near the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, the office is ideally positioned to serve the needs of the large medical community surrounding the hospital.
In 2003, the bank had a very successful secondary stock offering, resulting in an over subscription that raised over $30 million in new capital, far in excess of expectations. In addition to the immediate benefit of increasing the bank’s lending limit, the influx of new capital allowed EagleBank to add two new branches to its network, one at 11921 Rockville Pike in December 2003 and a second DC location south of Dupont Circle at 1228 Connecticut Avenue in April 2004. To further enhance the bank’s DC presence, a new Regional Office was opened at McPherson Square, 1425 K Street NW, on January 31, 2005.
The Bank’s ninth branch office, located at 15 Wisconsin Circle in Chevy Chase, opened in May 2006. This office provides a team of business specialists to serve the many professionals, small to mid-size businesses and non-profit organizations located in this busy, upscale business and retail area of southern Montgomery County.
Merging with Fidelity & Trust Bank in September 2008, enlarged the Bank's footprint in the Metro DC area. Since the F&T merger, EagleBank's customers now enjoy the convenience of 14 area locations. There are five offices in Washington DC -- Eye Street, K Street, McPherson Square, Georgetown and Dupont Circle; one office in Bethesda (also the corporate headquarters); a Chevy Chase office at the District Line; three Rockville offices, to include Rollins Avenue, North Washington Street and one just off Shady Grove Road; two in Silver Spring, one on Georgia Avenue and one on Sligo Avenue and an office in Northern Virginia at Tysons Corner. On November 2, 2009, the Bank opened a new branch on Park Potomac Avenue in Potomac, MD, just off of Montrose Road and Interstate 270.
EagleBank was originally formed to provide financial solutions to the business community of Montgomery County, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Its ability to offer unparalleled personal service to each customer, as well as responsive, local decision making and creative custom solutions has helped many area businesses grow and prosper over the years.
EagleBank, as a local bank, is proud to play an active roll in supporting the communities it serves. In 2006, the Bank established the EagleBank Foundation. The Foundation is funded annually with the proceeds of its Golf Classic tournaments and benefits those local organizations involved in the fight against breast cancer. A sincere commitment to the community has earned the Bank many friends and valuable new customer relationships. As the title sponsor for the "EagleBank Bowl" -- a premier college bowl held in December (first year, 2008) -- EagleBank took a bold and beneficial step to bring attention, support and economic growth to our Nation's Capital.
Customer loyalty has provided the opportunity for EagleBank to serve the business community’s personal and family banking needs, an added plus that has allowed the bank to do even more for its customers. EagleBank is thankful for its dedicated shareholders, satisfied and loyal customers, and its outstanding professional staff. All have helped make EagleBank what it is today.
